The introduction of the A380 to Emirates’ fleet heralds a new era in travel and a new and exciting phase in our own history. As the largest passenger airliner ever to take to the skies, the A380 promises our customers an unrivalled travel experience - further, faster and better, than ever before.
You could be part of this history in the making by being part of the crew on board. The A380 brings with it the very highest levels of performance. We are looking for crew who can bring the same.

Frequently Asked Questions:
@When will the first A380 arrive?
Emirates’ first aircraft should arrive in August. However we are keen to have delivery as soon as possible and these dates may flex a little either way. 5 aircraft are planned for delivery by the end of 2008.
@Where will it fly to?
The A380 will fly to some of our key long haul destinations in Europe, the Americas and Australia. Initially the routes will be limited to the number of aircraft available but eventually the A380 will fly across the whole EK network – short and long haul.
@What is the passenger configuration?
There is a 2 class and 3 class configuration. The 3 class configuration will come in two formats – one with crew rest and one without, depending on the length of the flight/destination.
@How many cabin crew will there be?
On the 3 class configuration: 24 crew – including 1 Purser and 3 SFSs
On the 2 class configuration: 22 crew on board
@Will it be more work than at present?
There is no reason why this would be the case! Crew compliments have been increased to reflect the size of the aircraft and the number of customers. In many ways, the product on board and the working environment should make some activities easier.
@Will the roles be the same as on other aircraft?
Largely – yes. There are a number of features planned for the A380 which will mean some greater variety of roles on board - however we are not able to confirm these at this stage! The focus of the Purser will need to be slightly different to take into account the number of crew on board.
@Do I get more money for working on this aircraft?
Standard flying pay will apply. There is no change in your contract or pay rates as a result of working on this aircraft.
@Will I still be able to bid for particular flights?
Yes. You may bid for all A380 destinations. In the initial months of the fleet there will be limited destinations but this will increase as we receive more and more aircraft. Emirates have 58 A380s on order.
@What will happen to my seniority?
You will retain your seniority. Bid groups will be tailored for the smaller fleet.
@Will there be a reserve period on the A380 roster as well? How often will I have a reserve roster?
Yes. Reserve duties are required for all fleets. Initially some flexibility will be needed as we build up the fleet. Details will be confirmed as soon as they are available.
@How will applying for the A380 affect my leave?
Leave will be managed within the A380 fleet. We will look to use existing bids where possible. The current allocated leave for the first half of the year should not be affected (unless there is a clash with eg: the training courses). If you are selected we will manage your leave within the A380 fleet.
@How many hours will I work a month?
The hours will be in line with those worked on the existing fleet. As with the current operation, requirements may mean that these need to be adjusted higher or lower. It is anticipated that at least initially, the schedule will actually mean that crew achieve their flying hours in a smaller number of trips and therefore may have more days off.
@What are the rest periods going to be like on board?
Rest periods will remain consistent with existing rest patterns.
@If I am successful, can I return to the rest of the fleet at a later date?
You will be able to request to return to the rest of the fleet after 24 months. All moves will be dependant upon operational requirements at the time.
@Will I still report to the same Cabin Crew Manager?
Whilst final arrangements have not been concluded, it is anticipated that all crew working on the A380 will report to the same CCM (s). This may mean that your manager will be different.
@If I have a specific language skill, will this affect my chances of being accepted?
We want to ensure that the A380 fleet is reflective of the diverse nationality base we are fortunate to have at Emirates. Being a specific language speaker will therefore not limit your chances of being accepted.
@I have already been successfully cleared for promotion but I have not yet been through my promotion course - can I apply and what will my grade be?
Yes you can apply. As a part of the overall selection decision we will of course consider experience levels. At this stage you should apply in your current grade and your promotion will be taken into account later.
@I am a part-time Trainer – can I still apply?
Yes. We welcome applications from part-time Trainers.
@What about my SEP license, will I still be qualified to fly other Aircraft?
As you will only be flying on the A380, your recency will elapse for other aircraft and so you will only be legal to operate on the A380. This does mean that you only need to concentrate on one aircraft type! If in the future, you return to the rest of the fleet, you will need to undertake the appropriate training.
@How will Career progression work?
Promotion opportunities will be within the A380 fleet ie: you will not be able to apply for promotion in the rest of the fleet. We anticipate that the opportunities will largely be the same as in the rest of the fleet.
@Will we be able to use all the equipment on the A380 during training?
We are very fortunate that we have great training facilities – including those required by the A380. There will be every opportunity to fully experience the aircraft.
@Previous new aircraft have had lots of teething problems – will this be the case with the A380?
The A380 incorporates some of the products already on board some of our new aircraft e.g. IFE, seats etc. Therefore teething problems should have already been addressed! In addition, the launch of the aircraft has been many years in coming. We have had a dedicated team planning for its arrival and as a result, we have had time to test and retest the equipment and facilities on board.
@How quickly could we evacuate such a large aircraft?
The aircraft has been thoroughly tested and certified to the same levels as our existing fleet. As part of the certification, the evacuation process has been trialled several times and the successful evacuation of the entire aircraft, in the dark and using only half of the exits was achieved in less than 80 seconds!
@When will the training for the A380 commence?
Training will take place around 4 – 6 weeks before the aircraft enters into service. Training will be very thorough and will take 2 – 3 weeks.
