JUSTIN KAN had no clue who Wang Lee-Hom (left) was until his girlfriend introduced him to the American-born Chinese singer's music a year ago.

The 18-year-old Pioneer Junior College student has been hooked since. 'His music is very good, and the lyrics are poetic,' said Kan, who takes part in singing contests and composes songs.

'Maybe, he can be my si fu (master) one day,' he joked.

And when Kan met Wang at a music journalism workshop last Saturday, he was one very happy teenager. The workshop, which was attended by 35 teenagers, was part of The Straits Times School Holidays Programme.

Before the 26-year-old R&B popster arrived at News Centre at Toa Payoh North, journalist Arti Mulchand gave them a crash course on what questions to ask.

The teenagers grilled him on everything from his childhood ambitions, his next album to his views of the notorious Hongkong tabloid media.

He kept his audience laughing throughout the 45-minute interview as he revealed some of his 'deepest, darkest secrets'.

For example, he confessed that he would love to take his next girlfriend to a tropical country 'so that she doesn't have to wear much clothing'.

Wang was also in town to promote his latest album, evolution, which was released in September. A compilation of hits from his previous eight albums, it has since sold 20,000 copies here.

He also told his star-struck fans that his much-awaited first English album, which will be released next April, will have 'lots of Japanese elements in it as it is going to be released in Japan'.
