As we know: The service industry in Taiwan has become world-famous. Many other companies oversea come to learn the spirit of Service of Taiwan.
And we also know that 7-11 and the health care system in Taiwan are the most representative of the service industry.
About 7-11, no matter whether you want to buy anything, even pay fees, draw money, or book a ticket anytime, we could use the i-bon and the ATM machines in 7-11, and there is always at least one clerk there who can give you a warm and kind service.
It’s really convenient. And you know in the future, for some remote places, there may add clinic services through the internet to give people some medical service, a live consultation. More and more people rely on 7-11, this kind of super-multifunctional convenience store, and 7-11 will provide home delivery services soon…
For the consumer, the more extra service the better…of course…
Our National Health Insurance system and health care service in Taiwan is also world-famous. Do you agree that health care is a service industry?
There are no other countries that treat their health care providers as a waitress or waiter. I have worked in the East district of Taipei, and met some patients who said it really is cheaper to live in hospital than to live in the hotel nearby. Ok, we nurses are angels, and our vocation is to try our best to provide every kind of service to satisfy the patients.
Why do I say so? Let me provide some examples that I have experienced,
One day, I was working the night shift, there was a patient whose life was depend on the ventilator, and the vital signs were faint. Strictly saying, he was almost dead. The time was 8pm then.
But his family didn’t prepare well, and request us to prolong his life to 5am in the morning…You’ll never know how we passed that night. I just felt the “Death黑白無常” was waiting and yelling near the door of the ICU.
In traditional Chinese, sometimes we choose the newborn’s birth time, but how about people’s dead time…is it extra or obligato service?
Another experience I met…
There were a couple, both of them were over 85 years old, and there was only a servant with them, the wife had to stay in hospital overnight…and the husband was wondering if he could go back home with his servant~!~
I was working night shift on that day, if I let the 3 of them to stay, it was unnecessary, and there was no more space to provide them to take a rest…and for these two advanced age guys, it was a little dangerous…but if the master took his servant home…I would be the servant of his wife all night long, as long as she rang the bell, I had to appear in front of her, no matter if she wanted to drink a mouthful water, or go to the bathroom…I should be there..in order to prevent her tumbling out of the bed and provide service…Besides, there were 16 patients that I had to care for…
Is it extra or obligato service?
In many situations, we think the service is natural and right, but is it?
To be considerate of others and to be thankful is necessary in our daily life, don’t you think so?
