Acting Methods in Zeami’s Kadensho and Its Influence on Takasago

The Japanese Noh drama is a traditional art form developed in 14th century which unites elements of drama, music, dance and poetry into one highly stylized stage art with aesthetic. Kannami (1333-84) and his son Zeami (1363-1443) are main roles who brought Noh to its ultimate peak of sophistication. Zeami wrote thousands of No plays but also twenty-three treatises according to his practical performing experience which established his highly contribution in this unique Japanese performance. In the paper, I focus on Zeami’s dissertation “ Kadensho” ( The Book of Handing on the Flowers) in the perspective of acting methods to explore great secrets as well as impact on the play “Takasago.”
