Only students who are smart enough can live like that!

I worked very hard. I studied night and day to pass the exams. Humm~~~

Janet
I thought everybody studied like that.

I know I'm not smart, and I was just fortunate to pass the exams.

By the way
My eldest brother went to Mainland China and found we are actually the 35th decendent of 趙匡胤。 So if the Mongolians hadn't come, I would have been a princess. But since you are my best friend, you don't have to kneel down next time we meet.
2009-11-25 14:37:58
Come on!
If you read history of China carefully enough, you will know that even when Mongolians hadn't come, China would not have been ruled by one family. There would always have been another family to revolt.

So, wake up quick!

Don't you know
the magic power of IF?
Can't you just let me have a royal dream for a while?
OR you're jealous because you don't have such royal link?
OR you're reluctant to kneel to a contemporary princess?
2009-11-25 17:04:46
Don't you think
I am jealous.
I am not!
I am not!
I am not!
I am not!!!!!!!
2009-11-25 18:06:57
Maybe...
I am also a decendent of the Chao family, because we only count the family name from the father's side.

We have 2 parents,
4 grandparents,
8 great grandparents,
16 great great grandparents,
32.............................
64....................................
128.....................................
256.....................................
512.....................................
1024....................................

And this is only 10 generations.

35 generations?
We don't even know how many family names to take, but we only take one.
2009-11-25 22:59:48
Welcome
to the Chao family!
There's no question that we are his descendant. A legend said the last emperor of Song Dynasty,少帝, fled to the south of China on a fleet of ships. Only 4 out of 16 ships survived from a typhoon. The survivors landed in 福建. The younger ones stayed in 趙家堡 near the sea, . The older ones hid in a small village(甘霖村) in the mountain. They were so scared to be found that they didn't communicate with the outside world during hundreds of years. It is said they still wore the Song-style clothes in the early 20th century.
See? Our blood relationship is quite pure.
By the way, I'm the 8th generation in Taiwan. In Chinese tradition, only males count. So I don't think I can say my daughters are the 36th generation.

I'm not bothered at all. I'm the 1st generation in Taichung.

My angel has become a great historian!
See? That's why we have to know our ancesters! Suddenly everything becomes clear! We know where we are and where we are going.

I always give my students the similar comment:
我是第六代移民
第五代在地台灣人

Member identification!

JNT, you still have to say your daughters are the 36th generation of Chao family.

Women should count, for blood, for gene pools and for self-identity. Everyone is the decendent of thousands and thousands of families. Even when the Chao family stayed in one place, it does not mean the blood is "PURE". They need spouses/wives to reproduce their offsprings. If the blood is "pure," that is very very very nasty and disgusting. You know what I mean?

Actually, I don't care. I'm just highly interested and proud of my eldest brother because he does everything seriously. He even took pictures in front of 少帝's tombstone. He also bought a book of 宋史 to study. It's really interesting. My ancesters hid in the mountains without going to the outer world for hundreds of yesrs. And later some of them immigrated to Taiwan. Most of the fist seven generations didn't move to other places until your angel and her brothers and sisters left there. (Of course, my other relatives moved away, too. )
I think "pure blood" means only the father's side.

其實自稱「第一代」只是表達對這塊土地的認同,並非狂妄自大,更非數典忘祖!
因緣俱足,才有交會;內在清明,方識因果!

You are not only the princess of the Chao family but also the queen in your classroom. Above all, you are the Princess of Mr. Chen.
