I’ve gone to the Grade 1B, Miss Beth Windsor’s class. When we arrived they were having the language and writing class. The teacher uses words that are related to the daily life. For example, Easter is coming, so the teacher taught them the words that related to the Easter. She will also draw the picture of the words to let the students know exactly what they are learning.
The teacher places them into a group in order to hold a competition. When the group got a right answer, they will have one point; otherwise, they will lose one point. This can help the teacher to teach because the students will focus on the class that teacher has taught and when they answer the questions, they are memorizing the answers. This is a lot fun than just the teacher chose everyone to answer her questions. Moreover, it is also a kind of revising.
I can see that their everyday class is written on the board, this also can help the students to know the English word for the class, such as science, art, etc. The feeling that the teacher gave me is just like a sister towards the students. She won’t scold them, just asked them to listen carefully. I think the relationship between teacher and students is very important, if the teacher treated them as students, she will have a kind of superiority, students are afraid of this kind of feeling. However, for them, they are like close friends, they will embrace each other. If I’m the students, I will be willing to talk to my teacher whenever I encounter a problem.
The atmosphere of the classroom is so happy. Compare to our pervious primary studies. We can’t talk anything during the class period. What we can do is sit quietly and listens carefully. However, the students in TIS can talk what they want to talk; they have many times to express their ideas. They all answer the questions actively. I think TIS has done a great job, they are just Grade 1, as I listen, I think their English is quite good structured, their English level will be higher than us soon.
