Broadcaster
.
New York and Taipei are both great cities with many things in common as well many differences, I’d like to share some of my observations about the two cities with you below:
In New York, hot dog vendors are a common sight on the streets, in Taiwan, there are also many street food vendors but they sell things that are very different such as dumplings and stinky tofu!
The Chinatown in downtown Manhattan in New York City is one of the largest and most crowded in the United States. In Taiwan though, there is only the American Club and not an American Town.
Baseball is a popular sport in both Taiwan and New York and Wang Jian Ming is one of my favorite baseball players.
Taxis in New York have rude drivers, are expensive and drive in a crazy manner. Taxis in Taiwan, on the other hand have friendly drivers and reasonable fares but still drive in the same crazy manner!
The MRT in Taipei is new, clean and efficient whereas the subway in New York is old and not as clean.
Both cities are laid out in a grid system, making it easy to find your way around.
Mandarin is the most commonly heard language on the streets in Taiwan but in New York, there are many different languages spoken everywhere.
Taiwan boasts beautiful landscapes and peaceful parks and New York too, is proud of its greenery.
There are four seasons in New York but only two in Taiwan – rain and more rain.
Both cities are the financial centers of their respective countries and have a young and vibrant population.
Taiwan has its Taipei 101 building and New York has its Empire State Building.
The most obvious similarity between the two cities for me personally is that I’ve lived in both cities. I lived for 4½ years in New York City and including my previous stay in Taiwan, I’m already on my 4th year in Taiwan and counting. I am enjoying this wonderful city where exciting opportunities abound and look forward to beating my New York City record in the near future!
