What is the meaning of maturity? What kind of personal quality is the most important one for maturity? Is maturity measured by the number of years a person has lived? In my view, the yardstick of maturity is marked by the quality of self-denial, determination, and dependability.
First, self-denial is an important quality in the mature student. What is the meaning of self-denial? Self-denial is how to control ourselves form selfish and behave ourselves. A mature person should know what he or she should do, what he or she should not do, and overcome the desire which he or she should not have. Besides, he or she should insist upon some discipline and self-rule. For example, a student should study for his or her exam, and prepare for his homework, before he or she want to play or join some activities. Mature students know how to arrange their time to do what they have to do and tell what is important for learning and self-rule. By the way, they can learn more and behave themselves to be better.
Second, determination is another characteristic of mature student. Student who has strong determination can face any frustration and get over of difficulties. ”Determination drives action, action drives passion.” In the process of learning, determination can push and support students to do something and this action can inspire our passion and enthusiasm for study. Otherwise, they become brave to find new idea to over through old customs and create new conception to let people follow it. A mature student is not meaning being an old-timer. Without strong determination, we can not realize any great idea and make any dream come true. Only when we have strong determination, we can make up our mind to do what we really want to do, and reach our self-goal successfully.
Although self-denial and determination are both vital, probably the most important measure of maturity is dependability. A dependable person is always a reliable, independent, and confident one. People trust their ability because they keep the promise well, they know that “A deal is a deal” and do any thing with responsible attitude. Their honest become their personal mark. They know their duty and have independent characteristic. They win much friendship and admire so they become respectful and confident. So a mature person must be a dependable one. Nothing is more important than dependability. ”Dependability is the basic of maturity.”
In conclusion, maturity is not measured by the number of years a person has live. Maturity is not a word which means to have more experience or mean being an old-timer. Self-denial, determination, and dependability are more important. So we should develop those characteristic and learn how to be a mature person.
