從上個月底開始 就發現
很多工人在做 Cathedral 外牆的清洗工作

看他們都搭上”吊車”(我不知道該怎麼形容ㄟ...)做外牆的清洗
真的很膽顫心驚的......
真的很佩服他們....都沒有懼高症的喔???

Cathedral of Learning 是全世界第二高的教育性大樓(現為美東的”最高學府”)，有42層樓，535英尺(約163.068公尺)。1926年開始興建，1937年完工。現在其算是綜合大樓，內有教室、辦公室、研究室。看了學校網站，發現一個有趣的事: 他們還統計 Cathedral 總共有2529個窗戶ㄟ~~ 嗯~ 窗戶真的很多喔!!!


The Cathedral of Learning, a historic landmark, is the second-tallest education building in the world—42 stories and 535 feet tall. It is also the geographic and traditional heart of the campus.

Begun by Chancellor John Bowman in 1926 and dedicated in 1937, the building was realized with the help of contributions from men, women, and children throughout the region and the world. During the peak of the Depression, when funding for the project became especially challenging, school children were encouraged to contribute a dime to ”buy a brick.”

In addition to the magnificent three-story ”Commons Room” at ground level, the Cathedral of Learning also contains classrooms (including the internationally renowned Nationality Classrooms), the University’s administrative offices, libraries, a computer center, a restaurant, and offices and classrooms for many liberal arts departments.

Trivia tidbit: The Cathedral of Learning has 2,529 windows.

最特別的是其 1F~3F(or 2F)的教室都是根據世界各國的建築特色設計其擺設，他們稱為 Nationality Classroom，這些教室也是吸引遊客的參觀 Cathedral 的原因之ㄧ。其 1F 更設有旅客響導中心，還提供響導講解，成人$3/人，小孩$1/人(果然他們也知道 小孩也不會聽，是被大人逼去的，呵呵!!)
其實 響導不只介紹 Cathedral，也會帶遊客走到Cathedral 附近的建築大致說明，像 Hillman Library 也是他們講解的重點之ㄧ (因為我再等紅綠燈的時候 旁邊常常會有一群人 最前面有一個人老是倒著走，那就是啦! 這時我就會聽到他那個倒著走的人說 Hillman Library was built in 1968 ....)

最近學校不知道為什麼熊熊想到 Cathedral 也站在校園裡面風吹日曬那麼久
突然想幫他洗洗澡???!!!
這是小孩子的想像說法啦~~ (呵~)
Anyway, 就是想要好好整理一下 cathedral 的外觀
所以 這些工人從上個月底就開始搏命演出了!!!

今天中午和一個美國朋友去吃飯
回 Cathedral 的時候 就聊到 他們這樣搭真的有點危險~

聽他說: 有些人並不贊成要清理 Cathedral 的外觀
理由是: 既然 Cathedral 在匹茲堡佔有很重要的歷史地位
那就應該讓他表有...保有歷史地位的感覺
所以 就算他髒髒黑黑的... 那也是應該的!!
(應該就是我們中國人說的: 古色古香吧!!??)

我問他: 那你贊成嗎??
他皺了一下眉頭、想了一下說: I don’t care. Who cares??!!!

那我贊成嗎???
我覺得如果他們真的可以洗到 Cathedral 很乾淨 還可以保有歷史古蹟”莊嚴”的感覺
不然 我覺得還是免了吧!!!
我看過他們有些吊車真的還只是用繩子綁著然後吊上去而已捏
看他們用這樣的方式
真的讓人擔心!!!
