BUICK LaCrosse



We took a 5 hour flight to Pellston, Michigan to test drive 3 new offerings from GM. They are Buick LaCrosse, Terraza, and Saturn Relay. Our goal is to get an early impression of GM’s offerings for 2005.

Continuing with the tradition of Buick Regal and Century, the new LaCrosse is a very important product for Buick. With a brand new look and brand new underpinnings, we think this car will break out from Buick’s traditionally conservative image. The new look is handsome with cues from Buick’s past. The new interior is cleanly designed, comfortable and functional.

We test drove the top of the line CXS model. Equipped with a new 3.6L V6 engine from Cadillac’s CTS, 17” aluminum wheels, sports suspension and Stabilitrak, this LaCrosse is dressed to run. Driving through the mountains aggressively, passing every car that came into sight, we clearly felt the sportiness of this vehicle. Whether it’s the rolling hills, or tight hairpins, this Buick is well composed. It is not only the result of stiffening the suspensions, but a result from careful engineering, giving this car a great balance. The ride is also very quiet and pleasant, capable of giving the high end family sedans from overseas a run for their money.

The target audiences for Buick LaCrosse are the same people who are currently buying Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys. Prices start from $23,495 for a CX, $25,995 for a CXL, and $28,995 for the top of the line CXS. From our brief test drive, we think this LaCrosse is a very competitive product for this market segment. Comfort, luxury, style, and performance, this new LaCrosse should bring Buick back to its formal glory.

先搭乘五個小時班機,再輾轉至密西根州北方小鎮Pellston,GM集團選定這風光明媚的地點,做為展示BUICK LaCrosse、Terraza和SATURN Relay的場景。此時秋意正濃,蕭瑟寒風吹拂伴隨著落葉繽紛,筆者在短短兩天時間,測試三種不同款式的車輛,品味兩家車廠邁向2005年的產品主力。

承繼傳統開啟新機
生產線位於加拿大安大略省的LaCrosse,是BUICK重整中型轎車陣容的重點車型,承繼Regal市場定位,原廠賦予該車全新外觀、動力和截然不同的駕馭感,在筆者長達一整天相處後,可以感受BUICK已經擺脫垂垂老矣的傳統印象,誠如BUICK品牌助理總監Lawrence R.Gustin所述,LaCrosse的變化從內至外,沿用概念車名展現其翻修形象招牌之決心。

多項進化改頭換面
在上午的媒體簡報後,原廠安排以兩人一組方式出發,首段路程就是一連串測試彎道極限的連續山路,顯然對於LaCrosse的操控,研發人員可說是信心十足。車體結構LaCrosse是完全翻新,強化保險桿、精心改良的輔助操控系統、鋁合金引擎底座,四輪碟煞是列為標準配備,車系劃分CX、CXL和CXS,前兩款走舒適取向為16吋鋁圈、CXS則搭配17吋鋁圈和運動版懸吊,加上GM獨家的Stablitrak設計,目的就是架構LaCrosse的絕佳底盤性能。

動態表現令人激賞
筆者在第一回合便不手軟,駕駛的是CXS車款排第二輛出發,隨車的是BUICK的代表Dave Darovitz,市區路段時稍為保守些,一進入山道起便油門全放,前面的車子速度飛快、逢車必超,筆者自然順勢迎合,可以感受到CXS在彎道穩定性,尤其沿途屬於高低起伏、落差較大的地形,因此車身遊走轉向不足、過度間可獲得平衡。但在踩踏煞車時機得掌握適當,稍不留神便過了煞車點,中間幾個髮夾彎車頭一指向出彎大腳油門,原本的質疑煙消雲散,應該說CXS的表現好過預期,該車並非單純硬化底盤罷了,抓地力、制動性和轉向在FF車中均有上乘水準,協調方向機的Electric Magnasteer System適時發揮,碩大車身展現的靈活度,著實讓我有幾分驚訝,至於CX、CXL舒適性佳、主攻寧靜度和精緻度,倒蠻有跟歐、日高級車一較高下的實力。

八秒衝刺加速輕盈
試駕的CXS與CTS共用一具動力單元,是3.6升V6引擎附VVT可變汽門正時設計,最大馬力240hp/6,000rpm,最大扭力225lb-ft/2,000rpm,或許討論BUICK的性能讓人質疑,因為鮮有車迷會關心,但CXS的犀利卻引發筆者好奇。通過Cross Village第一個折返點G-Tech派上用場,在筆直的森林道路上我們索性測試LaCrosse計三趟,3568磅車重、三名乘客又是濕滑柏油路,我們獲得最佳8.5秒的零到60mph成績,起步的推力令人印象深刻,以當時嚴苛條件分析,這種結果還算滿意。

格局完備高級水準
BUICK和CADILLAC隸屬GM汽車集團,走的一樣是高價路線,試駕後儘管一為前驅、一為後驅,但座艙內均包含了寬敞度、豪華度與舒適度,配備囊括車門遙控、電動駕駛座、可程式電動鎖、電動窗、六喇叭CD音響。選用配備LaCrosse有電動天窗、加熱座椅、方向盤控制音響和恆溫,以及前置六片CD音響、MP3播放裝置和XM衛星收音機等,可說是完全符合高級車所具備的標準格局,但GM集團的市場規劃,是將其定位僅次於CADILLAC的入門豪華品牌。以LaCrosse行銷策略,鎖定對手為FORD 500、HONDA Accord、TOYOTA Camry和DODGE Intrepid,平均價格介於兩萬至三萬美元間,CX基本車型23,495美元、CXL為25,995美元,而本刊試駕的CXS為28,995美元,競爭條件可說是相當完整,起碼動靜之間是判若兩車。
