100元徹底改變李孟發的生命路徑，買到一頭大象，離開了13年的金融領域工作，卻賺進許多孩子的夢想，其間得失權衡，是值得深深玩味的歷程。
網拍的奇幻旅程
網拍的東西無其不有，這回，連大象也赫然在列！ 啊，說太快，是大象溜滑梯啦！玻璃纖維，20年份，還斷了一隻腳，底標80元。正常人應該不會有興趣下標，阿發如果太理性，今天我們就沒故事可寫了。
當時，三十出頭的阿發任職金融業資深從業人員，年薪破百萬，尤其在金融海嘯之際，是人人稱羨的，沒去買名牌，他卻對位在綠島的大象溜滑梯心動。「這個溜滑
梯承載過這麼多孩子的『屁屁』，陪孩子度過歡樂時光，卻落得必須進垃圾場的命運」，阿發腦海想的，是臺東市小學母校另一個大象溜滑梯，一念之間，他下標
了，出價100元。
「恭喜，您得標了。」阿發的手機出現簡訊，他還以為是詐騙集團。沒錯，綠島國小通知他，可以來「自取」得標物。
蝦米啊，換作是你，可能花錢動用吊車、卡車，橫渡太平洋，把80公斤的溜滑梯運到臺北市的公寓嗎？
那年，莫拉克風災造成臺東不小災情，身為臺東子弟，阿發返鄉擔任救災義工，遇到綠島公館國小姚校長，他提到大象溜滑梯的困擾，姚校長欣然同意，「就移到公館來吧」。
孩子的希望大使 大象溜滑梯經過綠島公館國小、綠島國小學童合力彩繪，煥然一新，由海洋的藍色換成有如綠島太陽熱情的橘色，開心的搬新家。活動上了新聞版面，綠島大象成為綠島新地標。如果溜滑梯繼續只當溜滑梯，故事就不好玩了。
它的身份微妙的轉變了，「綠島大象」是大家對它的暱稱。阿發無意間聽到孩子對話，希望綠島大象陪他們玩耍，可以去臺灣旅行、環遊世界。
沒錯，就是要溜滑梯去臺灣旅行。身為綠島大象的監護人，大象爸爸阿發決定發揮執行力，以行動來陪伴大象完成夢想。著手策劃大象船運到臺灣，以及後續遊程安排。
阿發的構想，當然是被「正常」社會視為瘋狂的。向政府機關提出計畫時，屢屢碰壁，臺東生活美學館館長林永發、國立師範大學教授葉欣誠、姚麗吉校長是一路支
持的推手。他們真的讓大象裝箱坐上船，還動用壯漢讓大象坐上火車，帶著綠島小朋友玩遍五都，而且還讓綠島大象成為環境教育大使，在臺灣各地宣導環境教育的
重要性。
想像一個大象溜滑梯在渡輪遊愛河的感覺，還到木柵動物園與象爺爺見面，甚至公館國小的畢業旅行，就和大象參觀花博，所到之處，媒體大篇幅報導，形成議題，廢棄物活化再利用的行動，逐漸讓綠島大象成為環境教育的代言。
阿發更讓綠島大象發揮更多可能性：有學校提出邀請，師大環境教育研究所以綠島大象為主題提出相關研究計畫，出版社更將這個故事出版繪本。綠島大象常「出差」不在公館國小，綠島孩童和許多遊客沒見到本尊，難免失望。
所幸一家主題樂園有個和綠島大象非常相像的溜滑梯，在東部海岸國家風景區管理處等單位的協助下，順利「媒合」成為「職務代理人」，現在公館國小的綠島大象
分身很受孩子和遊客歡迎。綠島大象象徵愛惜資源、保護環境意義，與東管處積極推廣低碳旅遊理念一致，因此納入第三屆旅遊達人募集活動，綠島大象列為集點拿
好康的景點之一！

「綠島大象」繪本回臺東辦新書發表會，第一站在阿發母校─仁愛國小，用綠島大象讓孩子知道，有許多你覺得「該丟掉的」東西，只要多用心，會發現它還有不同用途。
阿發特別介紹仁愛國小的水泥白色大象，他曾在大象肚子下度過童年失意、沮喪時光，這個好朋友是觸動買下綠島大象的原點。
綠島大象的故事在欣誠教授協助下，引起丹麥駐臺北辦事處關注，丹麥首都根本哈根有個著名的小美人魚地標，命運和綠島大象有異曲同工之妙，他們希望促成綠島大象和小美人魚有相見歡的機會，向世界宣揚環境教育。
「綠島大象環境教育推廣計畫」並獲得行政院環保署「101年地球環境季」績優獎，對阿發毋疑是一種肯定。辭去工作三年多來，為綠島大象投注的金錢和心力，
無法具體計價。阿發還成立動畫工作室，為綠島大象製作動畫，讓小朋友更容易走進故事核心。他一直希望轉行到文創領域，綠島大象提供更廣的人生平台，生命因
而充實，不是金錢可以衡量的。
綠島大象不但為孩子圓夢，也讓阿發圓了自我價值的追求。
