Free from the bindings of real world practicalities.


It was the dawn of the Oil War.
A group of us from Taiwan have been generously harbored
into the Pakistan School of Tehran,
with a chartered van as means of transportation.

And there she was on the "school bus".
Soft-spoken was she.
Her dark eyebrows, attractive eyes, and fair complexion
appeared to the beholder back then
what someone would see in Anne Hathaway today.

It may have been taboo,
for a non-Muslim boy to fraternize with a Muslim girl,
but love at first sight knows no bounds

She was at a junior grade level.
While they kept apart in school,
the young twosome has a quiet spot
in the last rows of the school bus.

Oh no, there is nothing impure here.
just simply boy likes girl, boy talks to girl.
Getting to and from school became very much anticipated.

The sparkle from her eyes, her giggles while talking,
were so comforting and pleasing to him.
Something was growing in his heart.
Does she feel the same way towards the boy?
Some doubts....some uncertainty.

One day, emboldened by the upcoming school graduation,
He reached for her hand...yes, she accepted!


On the last day of school,
the boy planned to profess his feelings to her.
But alas, she was never to be seen or heard from again,

perhaps an early return to her native home?

So say love while you can, for it can be so fleeting.
