Alexandra Rebecca Parks was born on July 26th 1984 in the tiny Cornish village of Mount Hawke, with only two shops, a church, a pub and a school

Alex Parks first came to our attention during the 2003 series of the BBC TV series ’Fame Academy’, week by week we followed her progress and were amazed by her talent.

That we got to know Alex Parks at all was purely by a series of events that took place by chance.

When pregnant with Alex, her Mum Janie contracted Rubella. At the time, doctors told her that there was a high risk of the baby being born blind and/or deaf, they advised an abortion, Jeanie ignored the predictions and went ahead with the pregnancy.

When Alex was at the Richard Lander School in Truro, Alex wanted to be an art teacher, but by the time she did her A-levels Alex decided on theatre studies, but not before becoming a junior javelin champion.

Alex Parks attended The Hub theatre school in St. Austell, and learnt theory, dance, acrobatics and clowning, (but was never actually an out of work clown).

Alex Parks played the saxophone from age eight, but didn’t really know she could sing until she was fourteen, when she joined in the singing at a school camp.

Alex Parks began writing her own songs at age 15, her first musical success was winning fifty pounds at a singing competition in a local pub "The Tap House", Alex’s first band was a surf-rock outfit called ’One Trick Pony’ based in Mount Hawke, the band line up comprised an accountant, a mother-of-two, a hippy stoner busker and an alcoholic builder, Alex and the band spent two years playing in bars around Cornwall.

Dave from the band introduced Alex to folk music and taught Alex her first chords on the guitar and encouraged her to sing, Alex has said that if it wasn’t for Dave, she wouldn’t have continued to sing, Dave was also Alex’s first writing partner.

Alex Parks told her parents she was gay when she was 14. Alex said "I’d been fighting with it for a while, you think you are the only one and you think everyone’s going to hate you for it, I never came out as such I told my mum and dad but I didn’t really need to tell my friends? It’s like they knew" "My dad has always been really, really supportive right from day one, my mum found it quite hard to deal with to start with".

Alex Parks being in the BBC Television programme 荆ame Academy? nearly didn’t happen, in the spring of 2003 Alex had applied for a very prestigious clown-training course in Barcelona in Spain and had been accepted on the course. In late June 2003, Alex was all ready to leave for Amsterdam to visit her brother Dan on route to the course in Spain, planning to stay in Europe and go to the French Le Coq College of movement.

That was until the morning Alex got a call from the BBC?/p>

Alex’s Parks’ Dad Stephen, without Alex’s knowledge, sent in a tape of one of Alex’s four-track bedroom recordings to Fame Academy.

The fame academy producers were impressed and phoned Alex.

Alex said of it?br> "I got this phone call one morning and I thought it was a joke as I knew nothing about it. I didn’t think I’d get through the first audition anyway. Then when I did, and I kept getting further, you kind of get swept away, and you want to see how far you can go. Before I knew it I was on BBC 1."

Alex Parks entered the fame academy on August 6th 2003, after being voted in by the public after singing ’Beautiful’.

She didn’t really think about the possibility of winning until there were four of them left, and it only really hit her when it was just she and Alistair Griffin in the final.

Alex Parks says of her time in the academy "It’s been the weirdest thing I’ve ever done. Starting off, it was really scary, working with people in the house I’d never met. It’s a ridiculous thing to do really. It’s been really nice, I’ve met some really lovely people. I’ve done some amazing things. It’s been hard; it’s kind of a catch-22 thing, because everything you love and care about, you leave out. I’ve learnt some amazing things and hopefully I’ll keep with it afterwards.

Alex Parks went onto win the 2003 fame Academy on Oct 4th 2003.

Alex Parks has already had a Top 3 hit with her debut release ’Maybe That’s What It Takes’ and a chart success with ’Cry’, her debut album ’Introduction’ released in November 2003 has already sold in excess of half a million copies and is on it’s the way to going double platinum.

Alex Parks is currently working on her second album, due for release early in 2005.
