經由PChome個人新聞台這個介面認識了JT，他雖然年紀小小就移民到美國，骨子裡流竄的中國基因依舊驅策著他去研究書法之美，這一點讓我很佩服，也興起與他跨界合作的念頭，他在美國，我在台灣，他學動畫，我學表演，我們交談的方式是他用英文，我用中文，一個天南一個地北，把我們串聯起來的是一條電纜線，還有對藝術的熱愛。我挑選「素人魔朵」〈純真樸素的人/有魔力的花朵〉四個字，JT則用他所受過的訓練和他的感受來詮釋這四個字，以下是我對他的作品提出問題。
Q1:看到素人魔朵四個字心中有什麼感覺？
A1: Those 4 words have deep meaning to it, seem like there is a hidden secret or code in it. It has a lot of Mystery within, a very unique sense of feeling that is trying to tell me something. Pulling me into it, attract my mind searching for an answer be hide those words
Q2:可以講述一下所要表達的創作理念與執行上遇到的關卡嗎？
A2: On those 4 words the hardest part is trying to break the rules but still stay within the guide line. Giving something fresh something people haven’t done it, well that is one of the hard part about this piece. Then 2nd hardest thing is try to give the meaning of those 4 words and try to add feeling to it. So the writing can be different, so not just black and white words on paper. There is a lot of thinking before writing it, also need to understand how and why those words are like that, and how those 4 words can come together and become one. Then add design elements into the words, this way the words will have graphic style look to it. Those 4 words make me prefect how a live nude model is, their body, their pose, the way they move. So I find the elements of straight vs. curves, making the words like they are posing a position. Also I chose just black and white because the words will be strong and bold, just like how a model is on a stage. They are the center of attention, with confidence and elegance. To me writing in calligraphy is not just about words on paper, there is a lot more thinking then just writing it. That is why there are so many difficult parts on just creating a piece. Doesn’t matter is artwork or just calligraphy, to me there has to be reason I do it and a reason on what I want to express from my stuff. Just to keep it simple well is all about meaning and feeling within the piece of work.
Q3:一般認知的書法是墨汁寫在宣紙上，觀者可以直接看到作品表面的纖維與處理痕跡，請說說看你是怎麼看待書法與電腦特效做結合，你是直接輸出作品還是對原作有另外的處理方式？
A3: I feel bring the traditional writing on paper and mix it with computer it breaks away from what has done before. Also give it a fresh, unique and creative look to it. This way the words are not so boring, but are more colorful more design to it. The way I make each piece work is I scan in my original hand written calligraphy, and then I use the computer to add color or give it design elements. So just trying to bring the organic vs. technology together, see what I can come up, how can I make the words look something that is never seen before. That is all I try to do always try to find ways to break the rules, to search a way to be creative.
Q4:你的簽名看似也是畫面的一部分，在一開始構圖時會連簽名的位置都考慮進去嗎？
A4: about the signature, well, I always put it when I finish the piece. This way I can see the whole image before I put my signature down. I want to create a good composition by adding my name. And not killing the image, making it look bad. Signature should add be a plus to the image, giving the support. It’s like a supporting actor or actress in a move. It has to be a good balance between the word and the signature. One cannot over power the other one, which is the key to all my stuff. That is how I figure out where to put my name, and not just put it where ever I want in the image.
與其說是書法，我更願意稱它為圖像設計，也許會引來相左意見，但藝術不就是對既有價值觀不斷提出反動嗎？JT希望能創造出新的形式，我則希望能創造出另一種模特兒與藝術家的合作關係。一起努力吧！
