I received my first jury summons about two years ago. At that time, I only had been to U.S. for one year, and they excused me because I claimed I don’t have enough knowledge in English.
I got my second jury summons couple moths ago and didn’t get excused this time. The jury duty is around March, so I was concerned that it may affect my travel plan.
I followed the instruction to check the court house website last Friday. It asked my group to check the website again on Monday during 11-11:30 AM to see if we need to report to the court house at 12:30PM.
On Monday I checked the website, it told my group to check the website again on Tuesday during 11-11:30 AM to see if we need to report to the court house at 12:30PM.
I was annoyed by the fact I have to keep checking and they only give us one hour to commute once we need to report.
But my coworker told me, they just want to keep enough people on the pool. In the old days, people who were on the pool need to sit at the room in the courthouse from 9AM to 5PM doing nothing but waiting (I remember in one episode of Sex and the City, Carrie was having a jury duty and it was kind of like what my coworker described – maybe New York is still doing that?)
I realized I shoudn't be whining about this little inconvinience since it has been improving a lot. I checked the website on Tuesday, on Wednesday, and of course, it kept telling me to check the website again the other day during 11-11:30 AM to see if we need to report to the court house at 12:30PM.
And Thursday, at 11AM, when I checked the website, it said:
“Your jury duty is now complete. You do not need to check this website any longer.”
Yah!! I somehow complete my first jury duty! ^o^y
Though I didn’t do anything but check the website in the past few days, I still feel very happy and a sort of achievement. Also, feel lucky that I didn’t have to wait in vain in the court house. Haha~
