Square
A square is a 90-degree aspect that signifies energies at odds with one another.
When integrated, however, it helps build enduring structures. Commonly seen as a difficult relationship, what squares really do is delineate where the juicy issues are in the chart. When we harness the power of a square, we create opportunities for great personal growth.
Sextile
Sextiles are 60-degree angles (aspects) between signs that are complementary in their psychology (fire and air signs, earth and water signs). They are opportunities based on our willingness to activate, in smart ways, the planet/sign energies symbolized. With sextiles, having an enthused interest in what’s happening helps matters work out best for us.
Trine
A trine is a 120-degree angle, one third of a circle, that represents a harmonious flow of energy between two planets or points in the Zodiac.
It appears often as a lucky break or amazing timing. This aspect represents a period of blossoming, perhaps of enjoying the fruits of one’s efforts. Opportunities coming our way involve little effort, as others are receptive to our needs and offer assistance. But we need to stay alert, since the ease of complacency weakens our chances for success.
Conjunct
A conjunction is an aspect that occurs when two planets are within 10 degrees of one another in the zodiac. The meaning of each planet is strongly affected by the other.
Some conjunctions are easy, others tend to be stressful. A conjunction between the Moon and Venus, for example, represents a potentially harmonious relationship because of the similarity of the planets (both are gentle and want closeness). But, a conjunction between the Moon and Uranus is likely to be challenging because the Moon needs security, while Uranus prefers risk.
The close positions of planets in a conjunction signifies a concentration of forces, yet suggests a lack of objectivity. The New Moon is the monthly conjunction of the Sun and Moon, during which the Sun’s light obscures our vision of the Moon.
Conjunctions in a natal chart are significant keys to character and personality issues. Planets in the chart of one person conjunct planets in the chart of another play a strong role in relationship analyses. Conjunctions by transit represent the initiation of new cycles.
Opposition
When two planets are 180 degrees from each other, they are said to be in opposition. This aspect symbolizes the challenge of dealing with opposing points of view, but offers the possibility of objectivity.
