Greenberg and Hot Tub Time Machine in Los Feliz

Saw two flicks throughout the end of the week in Los Feliz (only east of the Hollywood region). One on Saturday. One on Sunday. First up was...

GREENBERG, which I saw on Saturday at 4:15pm at the Los Feliz 3 on Vermont Road, was a morose, dim, miserable and to some degree entertaining person study composed and coordinated by Noah Baumbach (with a "Story by" credit to his wife...Jennifer Jason Leigh). Featuring Ben Stiller as the title character, GREENBERG recounts the narrative of an irate, upset man who just escaped a psychological emergency clinic after a mental meltdown. While his sibling and his family get-away in Vietnam , Greenberg stays at their huge house...writes furious letters to organizations that disappoint him, and subscribes to do nothing...absolutely nothing...but perhaps fabricate his sibling's family a canine house. Before long Greenberg meets Florence (played by the fabulous Greta Gerwig), a hot yet desolate right hand to Greenberg's sibling and his loved ones steel band saw . Notwithstanding introductory cumbersomeness, Greenberg and Florence start an on and off, exceptionally broken relationship...which appears to suit the two of them. Greenberg likewise attempts to reconnect with his close buddy and bandmate Ivan (Rhys Ifans), who battles with the two his marriage, and Greenberg himself. Stiller is marvelous as Greenberg...and in spite of the way that Greenberg is a narrow minded, suspicious, egomaniac, without any thought of someone else's feelings...you still root for him...No, GREENBERG isn't the film you need it to be...yet under its own terms, it's still very great...

On Sunday, I got a 7:00pm appearance at the Vista Theater on Nightfall of the new MGM/UA highlight HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, a great parody dream part Headache, part BACK TO THE FUTURE...Directed by Steve Pink... HOT TUB TIME MACHINE stars John Cusack (as Adam), alongside satire vets Craig Robinson (as Scratch) and Ransack Corddry (as Lou) as a bunch of broken failure companions who gather as one at a ski cabin to assist after one of them attempts to end it all. Brought just in case is Adam's young nephew Jacob (Clark Duke)...who should tolerate consistent provocation by Lou. Not long in the wake of showing up (and after a shocking skiing experience) the folks join on a wizardry hot tub outside their room...and before long leap in to unwind, drink and be happy. However the hot tub is something beyond a hot tub...its a time travel vortex than carves out opportunity to 1986...Adam, Scratch and Lou are still themselves, but at this point they involve their previous young bodies...with 80's hair. After an advance notice by a baffling hot tub repairman (Chevy Pursue), the young men are cautioned not to transform anything in that frame of mind of disturbing 2010. Thus, the posse leaves there method for rehashing their 1986 experiences...good and bad...while Jacob puts the emphasis on fixing the hot tub so they can all get back home. The more I attempt to make sense of the plot, the more terrible it sounds...so you'll simply need to believe me on this one...HOT TUB TIME MACHINE is fun, and very amusing. The heading is beyond absurd, and not every last bit of it works...yet a lot of it does. Crispin Glover has a humorous turn as an inn bellboy, and Craig Robinson is an impact. His style generally makes me laugh hysterically (for example his appearances in Thumped UP, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, and so on). In the event that you're searching for a great time frame (from a movie, that is) leave behind your cerebrum simply appreciate HOT TUB TIME MACHINE.
